What is a doublet opal?
A doublet is two layers: a thin slice of genuine natural opal on top, bonded to a backing (often ironstone or black potch) that makes the play-of-colour read brighter and bolder. It uses less of the rough stone than a solid, so it costs less — while still being real Australian opal, not synthetic or imitation.
