What is a triplet opal?
A triplet is three layers: a dark backing, a thin slice of genuine natural opal in the middle, and a clear quartz or glass cap on top that magnifies the colour and shields the stone. It uses the least opal of the three forms, so it's the most accessible — while still being real Australian opal, not synthetic or imitation.
